This is certainly true of the art of George Arensberg, our master engraver here at Modlich's.

An accomplished portrait artist, Arensberg's sensitivity is as much a part of his art as the imagery of his engravings. The technical quality of his engraving work is unparalleled, but his ability to capture the essence and personality of his subjects is what separates his work from ordinary engravings.

Through conversations with friends and family and by studying photographs, George produces results which are of photographic quality technically, but captured, too, is an added dimension of warmth and personality unmatched by other engravers.

George's permanent engravings in granite begin with polished stone. He then removes the polished granite surface bit by bit with a diamond tipped engraving tool. The result is a durable etching in stone as permanent as the stone itself.

Arensberg, a graduate of The Cleveland Institute of Art and Case Western Reserve University, specializes in portraits. He is one of very few artists in the United States with the ability to etch high quality granite memorials. His enormous talent allows him to create black and white or full color portraits and other subjects with meticulous detail.

During the past twenty years here at Modlich's, Arensberg has completed thousands of special engraved memorials.
